Rumors surrounding Apple’s development of a foldable iPhone have persisted for quite some time. However, a recent report from Haitong International Securities analyst Jeff Pu, as cited by MacRumors, suggests that Apple’s first foldable device might arrive sooner than expected, and it may not even be a smartphone.
According to Pu’s research note, Apple has expedited its efforts on multiple folding devices, indicating an earlier launch date as production accelerates. The initial device in this lineup is speculated to feature a 20.3-inch display, possibly either an iPad or a MacBook.
This anticipated device is predicted to debut in 2025, a timeframe seemingly supported by insights from Korean display manufacturers, along with American and Taiwanese hinge suppliers. This timeline contradicts previous predictions, which leaned towards a 2026 or 2027 release.
Additionally, Pu suggests that Apple will introduce a foldable iPhone in 2026. The display size for this device remains uncertain, with potential options ranging between 7.9 inches and 8.3 inches, aligning closely with the dimensions of the current and previous-generation iPad mini.
It’s evident that both the 20.3-inch device and the smaller foldable iPhone would represent ultra-premium offerings, given the advanced technology and intricate requirements involved.
