You might think Google Chrome’s address bar, or as Google likes to call it, the omnibox, is just for typing in web addresses or searching. But actually, it’s got a bunch of neat tricks up its sleeve. Here are some cool things you can do with it:
Drag and Drop Words to Search
Instead of copy-pasting a word into the address bar, just highlight it and drag it there. Perfect for when you’re multitasking and only have one hand free, like when you’re petting your furry friend.
Talk to Gemini
You can now chat directly with Gemini, Google’s AI chatbot, right from the Chrome address bar. Just type “@gemini” before your query, and Chrome will take you to Gemini’s page with the answer. Note that this feature might not be available to everyone just yet.
Get a Blank Notepad
Need a quick notepad? Just paste “data:text/html,” into the address bar to open a blank page. You can even bookmark it for easy access, but remember, it won’t save your notes once you close the page.
Convert Measurements and Temperatures
Forget Googling conversions. Just type your conversion directly into the omnibox, like “forty ounces = cups,” and Chrome will give you the answer instantly. This trick works for temperatures, distances, and more.
Search Bookmarks Directly
Type “@bookmarks” followed by the bookmark name to search through your bookmarks right from the address bar.
Search Websites Specifically
To search a specific site, open a new tab and type “site:sitename query” to get results only from that site.
Search Gmail and Google Drive
Set up Gmail and Google Drive as search engines in the address bar for easy searching within your emails and files.
Easily Search Browser History and Tabs
Type “@history” to search your browsing history, or “@tabs” to find something quickly in your open tabs.
Quickly Start a New Email
Type “mailto:” in the address bar to quickly start composing a new email in your default email client.
These tricks can save you time and make your browsing experience even smoother!
