Nintendo Switch 2 leaks just revealed specs and potential release window

We’ve been anticipating the arrival of the Nintendo Switch 2, and now, thanks to a series of leaks, we have more insights into what we can expect from the upcoming console.

Android Authority has compiled these leaks into a comprehensive report, covering everything from potential release dates to hardware specifications and backward compatibility with existing Switch games.

The first leak originates from Famiboards, a popular Nintendo message board, and user LiC, who delved into shipments and customs data between Nintendo, NVIDIA, and other companies. According to their findings, the Switch 2 is rumored to boast 12GB of RAM with 2x 6GB LPDDR5X modules, offering a significant improvement over the 64GB found in the Nintendo Switch OLED model. Additionally, the console may feature 256GB of UFS 3.1 storage.

Serial leaker CentroLeaks, citing a Brazilian streamer named tvPH, provided further details about the Switch 2. They suggest that the console will launch in May 2025, with more information expected from Nintendo later this year. Furthermore, it’s rumored to offer both physical and digital backward compatibility with original Switch games.

CentroLeaks also revealed information about the Switch 2’s controllers, which are said to include built-in microphones, potentially introducing new gameplay dynamics. Additionally, the next Switch may sport an 8-inch display, a notable increase from the Switch OLED’s screen size.

While these leaks paint an exciting picture of the Switch 2, it’s essential to approach them with caution. Speculation about the console’s CPU and GPU remains, with conflicting reports suggesting different specifications. One leak, for instance, suggests an eight-core Cortex-A78AE processor, while another mentions 8GB of RAM and 64GB of storage. Until official confirmation from Nintendo, we should take these reports with a grain of salt.
