Mara Wilson, Lisa Jakub, and Matthew Lawrence, who starred together in the 1993 comedy classic “Mrs. Doubtfire,” haven’t acted on screen together in 31 years. But their memorable roles in the film have forever linked them as an iconic trio for a generation of movie fans. In the movie, they played the children of Robin Williams and Sally Field’s characters, and “Mrs. Doubtfire” became a blockbuster hit, ranking as the second highest-grossing film of 1993 with $441 million worldwide.
Sharing a heartwarming reunion photo on social media, Wilson expressed her joy at seeing her “Doubtfire” siblings again during the same week she visited San Francisco. Jakub chimed in, mentioning how much fun they had hanging out together and how Wilson and Lawrence still feel like siblings, even after three decades since filming.
Director Chris Columbus disclosed to Business Insider that talks about a sequel to “Mrs. Doubtfire” only began in 2014, shortly before Robin Williams’ passing. However, without Williams, Columbus firmly ruled out the possibility of a sequel.
Williams’ portrayal of a divorced actor who disguises himself as an elderly female housekeeper to spend time with his children remains memorable. Columbus also shared insights into Williams’ improvisation on set, revealing that the actor recorded an astonishing two million feet of film during production. He expressed a desire to create a documentary showcasing Williams’ creative process, using the extensive footage stored in a warehouse.
