Hy-Vee is recalling multiple items due to the risk of salmonella contamination.

A recall has been initiated by Hy-Vee for two varieties of cream cheese and a bulk-packaged snack mix due to potential contamination with salmonella. The decision to recall these products was made after Hy-Vee received notification of possible salmonella contamination from the third-party manufacturers of the affected items, as stated in an announcement by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

The cream cheese spreads subject to the recall include eight-ounce Hy-Vee whipped cream cheese spread with use-by dates of Aug. 7 and Aug. 14, as well as 12-ounce Hy-Vee cream cheese spread with a use-by date of Sept. 1. Additionally, four-ounce packages of Hy-Vee to-go Cookies & Cream mix and 16-ounce packages of Hy-Vee Cookies & Cream Mix with specific use-by dates were also recalled.

Hy-Vee clarified that these recalls were prompted by larger recalls issued by two suppliers for their products nationwide. The recall of the Cookies & Cream mix is associated with the recent Palmer Candy recall, which was initiated due to the potential for salmonella contamination in confectionery products.

Although there have been no reported illnesses or adverse reactions related to the recalled products, Hy-Vee undertook the recall as a precautionary measure. Salmonella can cause temporary stomach issues and fever in healthy individuals, while posing serious risks to vulnerable populations.

Consumers who have purchased the recalled products are advised to discard them or return them to the point of purchase for a refund. The affected items were distributed to Hy-Vee, Hy-Vee Drugstore, Dollar Fresh Market, and Hy-Vee Fast and Fresh convenience store locations across several states prior to the recall.

Hy-Vee has voluntarily removed all affected items from its shelves and emphasized that the recall does not impact its other cream cheese options or bulk-packaged items.
