Ascension hospitals across the nation experienced a cyber-attack, causing significant disruptions to patient care and services. The attack, which occurred on Wednesday (May 8), resulted in prolonged wait times for medical procedures and services.
Ascension promptly identified unusual activity on certain technology network systems, indicating a cybersecurity incident. This network encompasses 140 hospitals and numerous senior living facilities in 19 states, including Michigan.
In response, Ascension swiftly initiated investigations and activated remediation efforts to address the situation. Despite disruptions to clinical operations, care teams are diligently ensuring the safety and minimal impact on patient care delivery.
To bolster their investigation and remediation efforts, Ascension has enlisted the support of a third-party expert. Additionally, the company has notified relevant authorities and is collaborating with them to assess the extent of the incident and potential impact on sensitive information.
As a precautionary measure, Ascension has advised business partners to temporarily suspend connections to their environment. Partners will be notified when it’s safe to resume connections.
