Thirty years after the release of the hit action thriller “Speed,” Keanu Reeves is expressing interest in making a third installment of the franchise. In the original film, Reeves portrayed LAPD officer Jack Traven alongside Sandra Bullock, who played Annie Porter, a passenger on a bus caught up in a terrorist’s deadly plot.
“Speed” hit theaters in 1994, followed by a sequel, “Speed 2: Cruise Control,” in 1997. However, Reeves notably did not return for the sequel, which ultimately disappointed at the box office.
Reeves and Bullock recently appeared together on the “50 MPH” podcast, where Reeves revealed that he turned down “Speed 2” after reading the script because he felt it wasn’t the right fit for him.
During the podcast, the duo expressed their mutual interest in reuniting for a third “Speed” movie. Reeves enthusiastically commented, “I mean, you know — we’d freakin’ knock it out of the park.”
Bullock echoed Reeves’ sentiments, emphasizing that there’s no set formula for their on-screen chemistry, but there’s a strong desire to collaborate again. “Before I die, before I leave this planet, I do think that Keanu and I need to do something in front of the camera,” she said.
Reeves added, “It does feel like there is a siren call to it, like there’s something that wasn’t done. I would love to work with [Bullock] again before our eyes close.”
While there are no official plans for a “Speed 3” at the moment, fans can remain hopeful that Reeves and Bullock will team up once again for another thrilling adventure.
