47 Meters Down: The Wreck will be launching its sales at the Cannes Market.

Despite the enduring impact of the iconic film Jaws on popular culture since its release in 1975, numerous movies have boldly attempted to replicate its success over the years. Among them is the 2017 thriller 47 Meters Down, which spawned a sequel in 2019 titled 47 Meters Down: Uncaged. Now, a third installment in the series is on the horizon as 47 Meters Down: The Wreck prepares to make waves with its sales campaign at the Cannes Market. Returning to helm this new chapter are co-writer Johannes Roberts and screenwriter Ernest Riera, with veteran horror director Patrick Lussier set to take the directorial reins.

According to a synopsis from Deadline, the plot of the third film revolves around a father seeking to rebuild his relationship with his daughter through a scuba diving expedition to explore a renowned shipwreck in tropical waters. However, their excursion takes a dangerous turn when their master diver suffers an accident, leaving them stranded inside the wreck without protection. As they contend with rising tensions and dwindling oxygen supplies, they must rely on their newfound bond to evade both the treacherous wreck and a horde of bloodthirsty great white sharks.

Described by former director Johannes Roberts as the “biggest” installment yet, filming for The Wreck is scheduled to begin in the fall, with casting currently underway. Byron Allen’s Allen Media Group Motion Pictures (AMGMP) and James Harris and Mark Lane’s Tea Shop Productions are backing the project, with producers James Harris, Mark Lane, and Johannes Roberts at the helm. Executive producers include Byron Allen, Carolyn Folks, Jennifer Lucas, Chris Charalambous, and Matthew Signer. While Allen released the previous two films in the U.S., a distributor for the third installment has yet to be finalized domestically, but negotiations are underway at Cannes.

The first film in the series earned a spot on our list of Best Shark Movies Ever Made, highlighting its intense premise and suspenseful storytelling. As the protagonists find themselves trapped on the ocean floor with dwindling air supplies and circling sharks, the film delivers a harrowing tale of survival against the odds. With The Wreck poised to continue the franchise’s thrilling legacy, audiences can expect another heart-pounding underwater adventure that will keep them on the edge of their seats.
