Peacock has renewed “Ted” for a second season.

Peacock and Seth MacFarlane’s comedy spinoff series, “Ted,” is set to return for a second season.

The news was shared today on Peacock’s official Twitter account, along with a subsequent press release. While details about the storyline for Season 2 have not yet been disclosed, and no release date has been confirmed, the announcement comes as no surprise given the success of the first season.

Originally billed as an “event series,” the decision to renew “Ted” for another season follows its impressive performance. Earlier this year, it was revealed that the TV show spinoff had achieved Peacock’s biggest opening weekend for an original series to date. While exact numbers were not disclosed, the show surpassed other popular offerings like “Poker Face,” “Twisted Metal,” “Mrs. Davis,” and “Bel-Air.” Peacock also highlights that Season 1 of “Ted” was its “most-watched original title to date.”

According to Nielsen, the show ranked as the top original streaming comedy in the U.S. for over two months after its release in January.

“Ted” serves as a prequel to MacFarlane’s original 2012 movie and its 2015 sequel, set in the ’90s. The series follows the adventures of Ted, a talking teddy bear voiced by MacFarlane, and his high school friend John Bennett, portrayed by Max Burkholder. The cast also includes Alanna Ubach as Susan Bennett, Scott Grimes as Matty Bennett, and Giorgia Whigham as Blaire Bennett. While it’s uncertain which characters will return for Season 2, Ted’s presence is expected.

Our review of Season 1 described it as “Okay,” giving it a rating of 6/10. We noted that while “Ted” marks a welcome return for the foul-mouthed bear, it doesn’t bring much new to the table.
