The Olive Branch Police Department hurried to Kroger on Goodman Road after receiving reports of gunfire in the parking lot on Sunday.
Around 1:37 p.m., officers rushed to 7427 Goodman Road, the location of the Olive Branch Kroger parking lot, in response to the reported gunfire.
As per police reports, an altercation involving a man and a juvenile escalated, leading a relative of the juvenile to step in and try to diffuse the conflict.
During the altercation, it was reported that the juvenile’s relative fired a gun, fortunately resulting in no injuries.
Eyewitnesses at the scene shared that the incident stemmed from a dispute over a parking spot.
Shoppers expressed surprise at such an event occurring in the typically calm and small suburban area.
“It’s kind of surprising to see it happen and not know about it,” commented Phillip Brooks, a resident in the area.
The unsettling nature of the altercation resonated with a local customer who frequents not only Kroger but also various other businesses in the shopping center off Goodman Road.
“I do a lot of shopping here. Not only is my cleaners here, my phone vendor is here as well. McDonald’s there for breakfast,” shared Vincent Bass.
An Instacart shopper mentioned that people had to navigate around crime scene tape as police conducted their investigation.
Following the police response, individuals were detained, and the scene was swiftly secured. Details about potential charges are currently unclear.
Expressing concern, Brooks stated, “It’s terrifying because if I had known, I wouldn’t have come here today.”
