The Pennsylvania Attorney General’s Office has taken legal action against Davis Communications Internet Inc., accusing the company of falsely portraying itself as an internet service provider and reselling services acquired from telecommunications firms to rural residents in York County.
In a lawsuit filed in the York County Court of Common Pleas, Attorney General Michelle Henry seeks to halt the defendants, including owner David Davis, from offering internet services in the state. The lawsuit also demands consumer restitution, civil penalties, and the forfeiture of profits.
The lawsuit alleges that Davis Communications Internet Inc. subscribed to business internet plans and then sold the connections to consumers, advertising services such as “LTE high-speed internet” and “Truly Unlimited Service.” The company specifically targeted residents in rural areas of York County where internet options are scarce.
Furthermore, the lawsuit claims that the defendants misrepresented the causes of internet service interruptions and failed to issue refunds to consumers who were automatically billed for these disruptions. Allegedly, refund requests were ignored, and consumers were wrongly accused of ‘data abuse.’
According to the lawsuit, Davis Communications Internet Inc. operated under various addresses, including those in Palmyra and Phoenixville, despite being registered in Conewago Township. David Davis, the owner, with a last known address in Cape Coral, Florida, could not be reached for comment.
To protect themselves, consumers are advised to verify companies on the websites of the Federal Communications Commission or the Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission.
