Scarlett Johansson’s Directorial Debut ‘Eleanor the Great’ Sets Cast: June Squibb, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Jessica Hecht

June Squibb, the acclaimed actress known for her Oscar-nominated role in “Nebraska,” is gearing up for her next big project, “Eleanor the Great.” Joining her in this exciting endeavor are talented actors Chiwetel Ejiofor, Jessica Hecht, and Erin Kellyman.

Set to be released by TriStar Pictures and Sony Pictures Classics, “Eleanor the Great,” formerly titled “Eleanor, Invisible,” tells the story of Eleanor Morgenstein, a resilient 90-year-old woman navigating life’s challenges after the loss of her closest friend. Returning to New York City after spending decades in Florida, Eleanor embarks on a journey of self-discovery and renewal. With a screenplay penned by Tory Kamen, the film promises to deliver a poignant and heartwarming narrative.

Behind the scenes, the production is backed by a team of industry veterans, including Susan Sarandon, Jonathan Lia, and Keenan Flynn for These Pictures, along with Kara Durrett and Jessamine Burgum for Pinky Promise, and Celine Rattray and Trudie Styler of Maven Screen Media. Co-financing comes from Wayfarer Studios, Content Engineers, Pinky Promise, and MacPac, with executive producers such as Steve Sarowitz, Justin Baldoni, Jamey Heath, and Andrew Calof for Wayfarer Studios, and Ezra Gabay and Raj Kishor Khaware for Content Engineers.

For June Squibb, “Eleanor the Great” marks another significant role following her recent success in the comedy “Thelma.” Her impressive body of work includes standout performances in “Palm Springs,” Pixar’s “Soul,” and Amy Schumer’s series “Life & Beth.”

Chiwetel Ejiofor, fresh from his directorial debut with “Rob Peace,” joins the cast, alongside notable appearances with Tom Hiddleston and Tom Hardy in upcoming projects. Jessica Hecht, celebrated for her Tony-nominated role in “A View From The Bridge,” and Erin Kellyman, known for her contributions to “Blitz” and “The Falcon And The Winter Soldier,” round out the stellar ensemble.
