Mike Trout, the star player for the Los Angeles Angels, unfortunately, finds himself sidelined again due to injury. He and the team revealed on Tuesday that he’s dealing with a torn meniscus in his left knee, requiring surgery in the near future. The good news is that it’s not expected to end his season, but recovery typically takes 2-3 months, and the exact timeline for his return isn’t clear yet.
Trout expressed his frustration, noting that he didn’t even realize when the injury occurred. It seems to have crept up on him during Monday’s game, with some discomfort in his knee after certain movements. Despite playing through the game, the ache became more noticeable afterward. It’s a setback for the 32-year-old, who has been having a solid season statistically, leading the MLB in home runs.
This isn’t Trout’s first rodeo with injuries. In 2017, he tore a ligament in his thumb in a freak accident while sliding into second base. He bounced back impressively after surgery. Then, in 2021, a seemingly minor calf strain ended up plaguing him for much of the season, ultimately leading to him sitting out the rest of the year. Back troubles sidelined him briefly in 2022, but he returned strong after some rest. In 2023, a broken hamate bone in his hand cut his season short once again.
Now, the torn meniscus adds to his injury woes. It’s a tough blow for both Trout and the Angels, but they’ll have to soldier on without him for a while. Hopefully, he’ll make a speedy recovery and be back on the field before too long.
