Android Authority’s Mishaal Rahman sheds light on potential landscape-oriented optimizations in Android 15. Rahman suggests that the Quick Settings panel and lock screen might undergo reorganization to maximize screen real estate in landscape mode on phones.
Currently, on Android 14, accessing the Quick Settings panel in landscape mode merely stretches the portrait layout, resulting in inefficient use of space. Rahman observes that Android 14 tablets present a more optimized side-by-side layout. The upcoming Android 15 may introduce a tablet-inspired Quick Settings interface for phones, though Rahman warns of its unfinished state.
Additionally, Rahman anticipates a landscape lock screen interface, spotted during the Android 14 Beta 1 release. While Android 14 restricts lock screen orientation to portrait mode, Android 15 may adapt the lock screen for landscape display, mirroring the tablet experience.
Although uncommon on phones, a landscape lock screen could enhance user experience in scenarios like car mounts or gaming setups.
