In Tuesday’s game between the Brewers and the Rays, things got heated with punches thrown, leading to a bench-clearing altercation.
It all started when Tampa Bay’s Jose Siri grounded out to second base and casually jogged to first. Milwaukee pitcher Abner Uribe took issue with Siri’s demeanor and exchanged words with him upon reaching first base. The situation seemed calm initially, but tensions escalated quickly.
Uribe threw a punch at Siri, who retaliated with punches of his own. The scuffle was broken up swiftly, with only Uribe and Siri involved in throwing punches. Brewers first baseman Rhys Hoskins also got involved, needing to be restrained after getting close to Siri.
The hostility between Siri and the Brewers had been brewing throughout the game, beginning with Siri’s prolonged celebration after hitting a solo home run off Freddy Peralta in the third inning. Peralta then retaliated by hitting Siri with a pitch in the sixth inning, resulting in his ejection along with manager Pat Murphy.
The altercation occurred in the eighth inning, with the Brewers leading 8-2. Both Uribe and Siri were ejected from the game following the incident.
Despite the drama, Milwaukee secured the victory, improving their surprising record to 18-11, while Tampa Bay fell to 14-17 on the season.
