So, there’s some buzz about this new “Magic Button” shortcut for Google TV, and guess where it’s been spotted? On a real remote for a streaming box made by Walmart, of all places!
A sneak peek by AFTVnews got us a look at Walmart’s upcoming Onn 4K Pro streaming box, powered by Google TV. And guess what? Right there on the remote, in the top right corner, is the shiny new star button everyone’s been talking about. They’re calling it the “customizable button,” and you can set it up to do all sorts of things, like launch your favorite app or switch inputs. It’s taking the place of the old TV input button that used to be there.
This button has been popping up in rumors and leaks for ages, but this is the first time we’ve seen it for real. It first made waves in ads for Google’s Chromecast TV back in 2020. Then, last year, it popped up in beta code for Android TV, hinting that it might make an appearance on a new Chromecast under the name “Magic Button.” Now, with Google’s big I/O developer conference just around the corner on May 14th, folks are speculating that we might finally get a glimpse of it in action.
Now, let’s talk about the Onn 4K Pro itself. It got leaked last week in a livestream on YouTube by Superdell-TV. This bad boy comes with some serious bells and whistles, like a built-in smart speaker and top-notch features like Dolby Atmos and Dolby Vision support, 3GB of RAM, and a roomy 32GB of storage. And that’s not all—the remote even sports a big ol’ “Free TV” button that whisks you away to Google’s FAST channels. Pretty cool, right? While Walmart’s keeping mum about it on their website for now, the leaks suggest we won’t have to wait too long before it hits the shelves.
