MacKenzie Scott, known for her philanthropy and the former spouse of Amazon’s Jeff Bezos, continues to part ways with a significant amount of Amazon stock. In the year 2023 alone, she sold approximately 65.3 million Amazon shares, currently valued at an impressive $10 billion, as revealed in recent filings.
Since her divorce from Jeff Bezos in 2019, MacKenzie Scott has held the title of the world’s wealthiest woman, having received around 19.7 million Amazon shares in the divorce settlement, making up 4% of the company’s total outstanding shares. Post-divorce, she has consistently sold portions of her Amazon holdings, directing the proceeds toward various charitable causes.
Despite Jeff Bezos retaining the voting rights to Scott’s shares as per their agreement, he disclosed them to the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) when reporting his 11.5% stake in Amazon. It’s noteworthy that MacKenzie Scott committed to the Giving Pledge in 2019, joining the ranks of influential figures like Warren Buffett, Bill Gates, and Mark Zuckerberg, pledging to donate the majority of her wealth to charitable endeavors.
In a December announcement, Scott shared that her foundation, Yield Giving, had made substantial donations totaling $2.15 billion over the past year, benefiting a remarkable 360 organizations. Despite her substantial divestitures of Amazon shares, MacKenzie Scott’s net worth remains noteworthy, exceeding $37 billion, as per Bloomberg’s Billionaire Index.
