After escape in US mountain country, zebra on loose.

The town of North Bend, nestled in the scenic landscape of Washington, boasts a reputation for its abundant mountain wildlife, where sightings of cougars, elk, and even the mythical bigfoot are not uncommon.

However, the recent addition of a zebra has stirred up even more excitement. The zebra, along with three others, made a daring escape earlier in the week while en route to a zoo.

While three of the zebras were promptly apprehended by locals, capturing the fourth has proven to be a challenging task, with the elusive animal leading authorities on a wild chase through the Cascade Mountains.

The escape occurred on Sunday when the zebras broke free from a trailer during transportation to Montana. Quick-thinking residents, including brunch-goers and a passing professional rodeo clown, managed to corral three of the zebras shortly after they ventured into a horse paddock.

However, the fourth zebra has proven to be more elusive, evading capture for five days and prompting a massive search effort involving local volunteers and officials. Memes and humorous advertisements from Seattle-area businesses have added to the frenzy surrounding the runaway zebra.

Dallas Clark, a professional tow company owner and horse trainer, has been leading the volunteer search effort. His team, accustomed to rescuing lost animals in the mountains, has been tirelessly tracking the elusive zebra, which has been spotted by numerous individuals throughout the week.

Despite the challenging terrain and unpredictable weather, including near-freezing temperatures at night, the zebra has been observed returning to a feeding station set up by Clark’s group. However, the presence of curious onlookers has hindered efforts to coax the zebra back to safety.

Trail cameras have confirmed the zebra’s well-being, but concerns about encounters with predators, such as mountain lions, persist. The search continues, with volunteers combing the wilderness on horseback and closely monitoring the zebra’s movements.

Meanwhile, residents have embraced the zebra’s escapade with humor, sharing zebra-themed jokes and photos online. As the town eagerly awaits updates on the elusive creature, optimism remains high that the zebra will eventually be safely captured, once trust is established and the public gives the animal space to acclimate to its surroundings.
