Following yesterday’s announcement of Intercept Games’ closure by Take-Two Interactive, players have taken to review-bombing the studio’s final project, expressing frustration and disappointment over the shutdown.
If you check out the official Steam listing for Kerbal Space Program 2, the most recent reviews paint a grim picture, with a “Mostly Negative” rating. Numerous players have left comments expressing their disappointment with Take-Two’s decision to shut down the game’s developer. Some are cautioning others against purchasing the game, citing doubts about its future given the layoffs and lack of progress.
One user warned potential buyers, stating, “WARNING, the entire development team has been laid off. This project appears to be dead, it was barely making progress to begin with, it’s over.” They advised against purchasing the game, suggesting that the community may have to rely on modders if they want to see any progress.
In response to inquiries, a Take-Two spokesperson told IGN that “Private Division continues to make updates to Kerbal Space Program 2” but provided no further comment on the situation.
The review-bombing comes shortly after Take-Two filed a Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) notice in Washington State, revealing the closure of a Seattle office and the layoffs of 70 employees. It was later confirmed that Intercept Games and Roll7, the studio behind Rollerdome and OlliOlli World, would also be shutting down.
These closures are part of Take-Two Interactive’s broader plan to reduce staff across its studios. Despite previous assurances from CEO Strauss Zelnick that there were “no plans” for layoffs, the company recently announced layoffs affecting around 5% of its workforce and the cancellation of multiple projects.
