ALDI has just announced a summer initiative aimed at offering relief to shoppers grappling with rising prices. The discount grocer is slashing prices on over 250 items, including BBQ essentials and travel-ready snacks, until Labor Day. Although some meat discounts will only run until July 10, ALDI President Dave Rinaldo emphasized the goal of ensuring that high food prices don’t hinder gatherings or outdoor activities this season.
While ALDI aims to combat inflation, the reductions might not be as significant as hoped. For instance, the price of a Specially Selected French baguette has been reduced by just 10 cents to $1.49, and a bottle of organic avocado oil saw a mere 16-cent decrease from $5.65. However, there are more substantial savings on certain food items, such as a USDA Choice Black Angus Sirloin Steak discounted from $8.49 to $6.99.
ALDI estimates that these price cuts will collectively save shoppers approximately $100 million, nearly doubling the savings from a similar campaign last year. This move echoes recent initiatives by other grocery chains like Trader Joe’s, which reduced prices on select items in March. The efforts reflect public frustration over rising costs, a concern that has become prominent in President Joe Biden’s re-election bid. With U.S. food prices rising well above the usual rate, consumers are increasingly vocal about the need for relief.
