Just days after Prince William shared a rare update on Kate Middleton’s health, a close friend of the couple has revealed how they’re truly coping with the news of Kate’s cancer diagnosis.
According to Amaia Arrieta, a designer who has been dressing the royal family for over a decade, the Duke and Duchess of Wales are finding it incredibly difficult to come to terms with the diagnosis, despite putting on a brave face for the public. “I’m absolutely heartbroken,” Arrieta shared with The Telegraph on May 2, 2024. “I can see that they’re going through a lot.” She added, “I sincerely hope they’ll overcome this. It’s a deeply personal struggle.”
Arrieta’s update follows closely after Prince William was questioned about his wife’s health during a charity visit to James’ Place Newcastle on April 30, 2024. During a walkabout, a royal fan inquired about Kate’s condition. “May I ask how your wife and children are doing?” the woman asked. Prince William responded, “We’re all doing okay, thank you.” When pressed further about Catherine, he reiterated, “We’re managing.”
The Princess of Wales publicly announced her cancer diagnosis on March 22, 2024. This revelation came after she underwent planned abdominal surgery in January of the same year. Although the surgery was successful, follow-up tests revealed the presence of cancer. Kate’s medical team recommended preventative chemotherapy, and in her announcement, she disclosed that she was in the early stages of this treatment.
Despite speculation leading up to her announcement, Kate delayed sharing the news of her diagnosis to ensure she and Prince William could explain the situation properly to their children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis. “We took our time to explain everything to George, Charlotte, and Louis in a way that’s suitable for them, and to reassure them that I’ll be fine,” she shared. “I’ve told them I’m doing well and getting stronger every day, focusing on healing my mind, body, and spirit.”
Kate expressed her gratitude for the support she received, particularly acknowledging her husband. “Having William beside me is a tremendous source of comfort and reassurance,” she stated. “As is the love, support, and kindness from so many of you. It means the world to both of us.”
The news of Kate’s diagnosis came just over a month after Buckingham Palace revealed that her father-in-law, King Charles, was also undergoing treatment for cancer following a routine procedure. Despite these challenges, the royal family continues to face them with strength and resilience, with King Charles returning to his duties and Princess Kate focusing on her recovery in private.
