Jenna Ortega and Amy Adams are reportedly in talks to join the cast of Taika Waititi’s upcoming film “Klara and the Sun,” produced by Sony 3000.
Waititi, known for his unique style of filmmaking, has been attached to the project for some time. The movie is based on the novel by Kazuo Ishiguro, the acclaimed author of “Remains of the Day” and “Never Let Me Go.” Reports of Ortega’s potential involvement were first mentioned in The InSnieder newsletter, while Deadline later confirmed Adams’ casting.
Ortega, who has a busy schedule, recently wrapped up filming for “Beetlejuice 2” and is set to begin shooting the second season of the Netflix hit series “Wednesday” soon. Her film “Miller’s Girl” was released in theaters on Jan. 26. Over the past year, she also starred in “Scream VI” and notably decided not to return for the seventh installment of the Spyglass franchise.
Meanwhile, Adams, a six-time Oscar nominee, will next appear in Marielle Heller’s “Nightbitch” from Searchlight Pictures. Her impressive filmography includes acclaimed performances in “Vice,” “The Fighter,” and “Doubt.”
“Klara and the Sun,” published by Ishiguro in 2021, offers a unique perspective through the eyes of Klara, a robot companion. Ortega is reportedly set to portray Klara, while Adams will play the mother who purchases the robot for her teenager.
Adams is represented by Linden Entertainment, WME, and Sloane Offer and Narrative, while Ortega is represented by CAA, Viewpoint, and Jackoway Austen.
