According to a new investor note obtained by 9to5Mac, Apple is stepping up its efforts in the realm of foldable devices. The note, authored by analyst Jeff Pu from Haitong International Securities, suggests that Apple will commence mass production of a 20.3-inch foldable device by the end of 2025, followed by the release of a foldable iPhone in late 2026.
Previously, Ming-Chi Kuo had indicated that Apple was developing a 20.3-inch foldable MacBook slated for a 2027 launch. Additionally, Ross Young had reported on Apple’s work on a 20-inch foldable hybrid device, anticipated for release in either 2026 or 2027. Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman had also mentioned Apple’s exploration of a dual-screen, foldable MacBook/iPad hybrid.
If Pu’s latest report holds true, it suggests that Apple has expedited its efforts in the foldable device arena. The report cites “increasing visibility” of Apple’s foldable devices based on checks within the supply chain.
Pu suggests that Apple’s foldable offerings would target the “ultra-high-end market” and introduce a new product lineup for the tech giant. As for the foldable iPhone, it is said to be under consideration in two screen sizes: 7.9 inches and 8.3 inches.
While the reported timeline is notably ambitious, it has yet to be substantiated by other sources. As such, it’s advisable to approach this information with some caution. Nonetheless, the prospect of Apple entering the foldables market is certainly intriguing to consider.
