The Beekeeper Hive has snatched the spotlight at the U.S. box office, overtaking the Mean Girls musical after a three-week run. While some may interpret this as Beekeeper fever gripping the nation, it’s more a reflection of the current struggles facing American theaters as January draws to a close.
With $7.4 million in earnings, Beekeeper now boasts a total of $42 million, edging out Mean Girls, which brought in $7.2 million for a total of $60 million.
The top five lineup remains consistent, with Wonka, Migration, and Anyone But You maintaining their positions and pulling in respectable earnings ranging from $4 million to $6 million each. Wonka’s trajectory suggests it may eventually cross the $200 million mark.
Shifting focus to the lower half of the top 10, notable movements are observed. Poor Things surged from 10th to sixth place as its theater presence expanded, witnessing a revenue increase of over 40% from the previous week, with a total of $24 million. Similarly, American Fiction climbed from 12th to seventh place, securing nearly $3 million in its seventh week.
While Aquaman And The Lost Kingdom and Godzilla Minus One held steady, The Boys In The Boat rounded off the top 10.
Despite the challenging landscape, the box office still sees noteworthy successes and changes within the industry.
