Austin Butler shared his tight schedule between filming “Elvis” and “Masters of the Air” during an appearance on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert. The actor, who portrayed Elvis Presley, revealed he had just a week between the two projects, requiring him to quickly shed his Elvis accent for his role in “Masters of the Air.” Butler mentioned having a dialect coach to assist him in sounding less like Elvis.
After dedicating three years of his life to playing Elvis, Butler faced challenges rediscovering himself. He expressed, “I was just trying to remember who I was… All I thought about was Elvis for three years.” With a week off between projects, he flew to London during the COVID pandemic, utilizing the quarantine period to immerse himself in learning about World War II for his role in the war drama series “Masters of the Air,” set to premiere on Apple TV+ on Jan. 26.
While fans had previously noticed Butler’s Elvis-like accent, the actor addressed it, saying, “I often liken it to when somebody lives in another country for a long time, and I had three years where that was my only focus in life. So I’m sure that there’s just pieces of my DNA that will always be linked in that way.”
