Before signing with Marlins, reports indicate that the Giants and Angels were interested in Tim Anderson.

Tim Anderson, the former shortstop for the White Sox, recently inked a one-year contract worth $5 million with the Marlins, marking a significant move in his MLB career. While initially it seemed that only the Marlins were interested in his services, reports have surfaced suggesting that other teams also expressed interest in acquiring the 2019 batting title winner.

According to recent reports, the Marlins had their sights set on Anderson since the 2023 trade deadline, especially after the White Sox made several trades, including the departure of players like Lucas Giolito and Lance Lynn. Anderson’s reunion with former teammate Jake Burger adds familiarity to his new journey in Miami.

Although the Marlins initially offered Anderson $2 million, they eventually settled on a higher-priced “prove it” deal, indicating their belief in his abilities.

Anderson’s move to Miami comes after the White Sox declined his club option, granting him free agency. Despite spending his entire eight-season career with the White Sox, Anderson’s impact as a leadoff hitter and base stealer was undeniable. His stellar performance in 2019, where he clinched the batting title with an impressive .335 average, set the stage for several successful seasons thereafter.

Known for his dynamic playing style, characterized by emotion and memorable bat flips, Anderson often sparked debates among baseball enthusiasts about unwritten rules versus embracing the spirit of the game.

Having been selected by the White Sox in the 2013 draft, Anderson made significant contributions, earning two All-Star selections during his tenure with the team.

Overall, Anderson’s move to the Marlins signifies a new chapter in his career, offering him the opportunity to continue showcasing his talent on a different stage.
