CBS has a new project in the works for fans of the “CSI” franchise, but this time it’s heading into the real world. The network announced on Tuesday that it’s launching an unscripted docuseries, “The Real CSI: Miami,” which draws inspiration from the scripted series “CSI: Miami.” The new show is set to debut on June 26 at 10 p.m. ET as part of CBS’s summer lineup. Each episode of “The Real CSI: Miami” delves into real-life crime cases, exploring how forensic science helps solve them. The focus is on the victims and their families, providing a glimpse into the pursuit of justice.
This news comes on the heels of “CSI: Vegas” getting canceled in April after three seasons. But CBS isn’t ready to say goodbye to the iconic franchise. During the announcement of the network’s 2024-2025 schedule, CBS Entertainment president Amy Reisenbach mentioned that more “CSI” projects could be on the way. She hinted at the network’s intention to keep the “CSI” universe alive, emphasizing its importance to CBS’s legacy. The original “CSI: Crime Scene Investigation” premiered in 2000, sparking a franchise that grew to include four spin-offs: “CSI: Miami,” “CSI: New York,” “CSI: Cyber,” and “CSI: Vegas.”
George Cheeks, CBS’s CEO, also commented on the ongoing popularity of the franchise, pointing out that it’s still a hit globally and among the most-watched channels on Pluto TV. The new docuseries is produced by JBTV and Magical Elves, with an impressive team of executive producers including Jerry Bruckheimer, Anthony E. Zuiker, KristieAnne Reed, Ann Donahue, Carol Mendelsohn, Jo Sharon, Casey Kriley, and John Henshaw.
CBS also revealed other key dates for its summer programming. On July 14, the network will air the first episode of “Tulsa King,” starring Sylvester Stallone. “Big Brother” kicks off its 26th season on July 17, while “Let’s Make a Deal Primetime” returns on August 7. In addition, CBS has several summer specials lined up, such as “Greatest @Home Videos: Father’s Day Edition,” hosted by Cedric the Entertainer, on June 14, and the 51st Daytime Emmys on June 7. The 77th Tony Awards will air on June 16.
With these announcements, CBS is showing that while the “CSI” franchise is evolving, it’s far from over. “The Real CSI: Miami” aims to keep viewers intrigued with its real-life stories, highlighting the emotional and scientific sides of crime-solving.
