Golden Globe-nominated actress Chrissy Metz confessed that she initially turned down the opportunity to appear as Poodle Moth on the FOX reality TV series “The Masked Singer.” “I was hesitant because I didn’t think I could pull it off. I doubted whether I was the right fit for the role,” she explained. “Plus, I tend to get really warm, especially in my face. I wondered how I could wear a mask and still sing well. It took some convincing, but I eventually realized it was a fun, challenging, and liberating experience.” In an exclusive video interview with Gold Derby senior editor Denton Davidson, Metz reflected on her journey on the show.
Metz’s identity as Poodle Moth was revealed during Wednesday night’s quarter-finals episode of Season 11. She finished in fourth place, with Clock, Goldfish, and Gumball advancing to the semi-finals. Only panelist Jenny McCarthy Wahlberg correctly guessed Metz’s identity, while Robin Thicke, Ken Jeong, and Rita Ora speculated that she might be Shania Twain, Melissa McCarthy, or Faith Hill, respectively. “Those guesses are flattering, especially since I’m fans of all of them,” Metz commented.
As a recording artist herself, Metz shared that her biggest vocal influences as a child were Whitney Houston and Linda Ronstadt. “I was incredibly inspired by them. They were amazing. There were many other women who influenced me, but if I had to choose two, it would be them.”
Metz also discussed her upcoming role in the STARZ drama “The Hunting Wives,” where she stars alongside Malin Akerman, Brittany Snow, and Dermot Mulroney. “The characters are complex women,” she revealed. “It’s a juicy show. I think it’s going to be one of those series where people will be calling each other to discuss the latest episode. It’s a bit scandalous.”
