DECIX Indonesia Pratama, a collaboration between internet exchange operator DE-CIX and IDMarco Digital Solusi, a subsidiary of Salim Group, made an announcement on Tuesday regarding the launch of DE-CIX Jakarta IX, which is now operational and serving customers.
The new internet exchange (IX) spans across two data centers in Jakarta: NTT’s JKT2 and the Matrix Data Center JKT2, offering access to 95% of the Jakarta market. Currently, DE-CIX is in the process of connecting the first 10+ customers, which comprise both domestic and international networks, to the Jakarta IX.
In addition to providing peering services for direct network interconnection, DE-CIX Jakarta offers cloud exchange and cloud routing capabilities. This enables customers to directly connect to major cloud providers such as AWS, Microsoft Azure, Google, IBM, and Oracle.
DE-CIX Jakarta also offers various enterprise-grade interconnection services, along with a self-service portal and API for easy management and automation of interconnection services.
Moreover, the Jakarta IX is seamlessly integrated into DE-CIX’s existing ASEAN ecosystem through a direct connection to its IX in Singapore. DE-CIX also operates regional exchanges in Kuala Lumpur, Johor Bahru, Penang, Brunei, and Manila, allowing customers at any of these locations to exchange internet traffic with networks at other IXs in the region.
DE-CIX CEO Ivo Ivanov emphasized the strategic significance of adding Indonesia to their ecosystem. Indonesia, with its vast population and rapidly growing economy, is positioning itself as a major connectivity and digital hub in Southeast Asia. As mega hubs like Singapore and Hong Kong face increasing restrictions, Jakarta is attracting significant investments to cater to local demands. Global players are eyeing the Indonesian market and expect high-quality interconnection services and low latency to end-users, similar to what they find in other key markets.
