Exciting news for Disney fans! Moana and Maui are returning for another adventure in Disney’s upcoming sequel, Moana 2, set to hit theaters on November 27.
Disney CEO Bob Iger announced that what was initially planned as a TV project has been upgraded to a theatrical release due to its impressive quality. “Moana is still a beloved franchise, and we’re excited to bring back Moana and Maui,” Iger said.
In Moana 2, our beloved heroine Moana, voiced by Auli’i Cravalho, answers a call from her ancestors and embarks on a daring journey across the vast seas of Oceania with her friends. This new voyage promises to take them through uncharted waters and thrilling adventures.
Alongside the announcement, Disney released a teaser trailer, giving fans a glimpse of Moana on a beautiful beach, blowing a conch shell at sunset, revealing her iconic boat. Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson’s voice as Maui can be heard in the background with his trademark call, “Cheerhoo!”
Directed by Dave Derrick Jr., Moana 2 will feature talented songwriters from the original film, including Abigail Barlow, Emily Bear, Opetaia Foa’i, and Mark Mancina. While Lin-Manuel Miranda won’t be returning, the sequel promises a captivating soundtrack that will once again enchant audiences.
