Gabrielle Union is adjusting to the reality of her kids growing up. Speaking to ET’s Rachel Smith at the New York premiere of The Idea of You on Monday, the actress shared insights into her recent college visits with her husband, Dwyane Wade, and his daughter, Zaya Wade.
Union expressed a mix of emotions about the college search process, particularly for Zaya, their 16-year-old stepdaughter. While Zaya seems calm and focused on her goals, Union admitted to feeling stressed about the prospect of her daughter leaving home for college. She acknowledged the universal anxiety that parents face when their children venture into the world on their own.
As Zaya prepares for college, Union joked about her own limitations in providing academic assistance. With Zaya aspiring to major in astrobiology, Union humorously admitted that her expertise as a Sociology major offers limited help in this area.
In addition to supporting Zaya, Union and Wade are actively engaged with their 5-year-old daughter, Kaavia. Recently, they delighted fans by sharing a video of Kaavia channeling Union’s character from Bring It On. Despite Kaavia’s reluctance to watch the entire movie, Union expressed joy at her daughter’s enthusiasm for dressing up and performing.
Regarding the possibility of another Bring It On project, Union teased various potential ventures, including a TV show or a reimagining of the beloved film. However, she emphasized that family remains her priority when choosing projects. Union believes that setting boundaries and saying no are essential for maintaining her well-being and fighting against aging.
Despite her selective approach to projects, Union couldn’t resist the opportunity to be involved in The Idea of You, a film she produced and felt deeply connected to after six years of development.
