The Republican Party of Florida has chosen Barron Trump, the 18-year-old son of former President Donald Trump, as one of the state’s at-large delegates to the Republican National Convention, according to Politico. This selection thrusts Barron into the political spotlight even before he graduates from high school.
Alongside Barron, the state party selected other Trump family members to represent Florida at the convention. Eric Trump, another of Donald Trump’s sons, has been chosen as the delegation chair, a role that will have him place his father’s name into nomination. Other Trump delegates include Donald Trump Jr., Tiffany Boulos (formerly Tiffany Trump), and her husband, Michael Boulos.
A Trump campaign official mentioned that Barron is quite interested in the political process. However, the former president recently expressed concern that he might not be able to attend Barron’s high school graduation because of his legal troubles in Manhattan related to hush-money payments to an adult film actress. After some negotiation, the judge overseeing Trump’s case agreed to let him attend Barron’s graduation ceremony next week at Oxbridge Academy in suburban West Palm Beach.
As for Barron’s future, there’s no public word yet on what he’ll do after high school. The Republican National Convention will take place in Milwaukee in July, and Barron will be among the delegates representing Florida.
Ivanka Trump, who was a senior adviser in the Trump administration, is notably absent from the list of delegates. She appears to be distancing herself from politics, while other members of her family are diving in. Many of them now reside in Florida.
Republican Party of Florida Chair Evan Power hosted a phone call with key delegation leaders, including Kimberly Guilfoyle, who is engaged to Donald Trump Jr. and serves on the platform committee for the Republican National Convention. Power said he is pleased with the mix of delegates, which includes grassroots leaders, elected officials, and members of the Trump family.
Alongside the Trump family, the delegate list includes several notable figures from the Florida GOP, including those who supported Gov. Ron DeSantis, such as Florida Attorney General Ashley Moody, state Speaker Designate Danny Perez, and Senate President Designate Ben Albritton. Others on the list, like Pam Bondi, a former Florida attorney general who ran super PACs for Trump, and state Sen. Randy Fine, previously endorsed DeSantis but have since switched their support to Donald Trump.
Recent polls suggest that Donald Trump has a comfortable lead over President Joe Biden in Florida, with a margin exceeding 10 points. Trump won the state in both the 2016 and 2020 presidential elections, and his supporters in Florida appear to be rallying around him once again.
