HMD Global has revived a few classic Nokia feature phones, but what if they decided to remake other iconic smartphones from Nokia’s past? The Nokia E72 and Nokia N95 could be excellent candidates for a comeback.
When HMD Global Oy, the Finnish company licensed to produce Nokia-branded phones, brought back a modern version of the Nokia 3310 in 2017, many hoped to see revived versions of classic Nokia smartphones as well. However, despite the return of Nokia-branded smartphones, none of them have been modernized versions of the iconic models from the original Nokia era. While it’s unlikely to happen given HMD Global’s focus on its own smartphone lineup, there are four classic Nokia smartphones that fans would love to see remade.
1. Nokia E72
The Nokia E series was renowned for its QWERTY keyboard and productivity features. With the resurgence of smartphones featuring physical keyboards, like the BlackBerry Keyone and BlackBerry KEY2, it would have been fitting for HMD Global to launch a modern remake of one of the models from the series. The Nokia E72 stands out as a top choice, offering potential upgrades like a larger touch screen, improved cameras, a bigger battery with fast charging, and Android OS integration. Retaining key features such as dedicated email, calendar, and contact keys, as well as an optical trackpad, would maintain the essence of the original model.
2. Nokia N95
The Nokia N95 was known for its innovative slide-up design, revealing either a keyboard or media control buttons. With the resurgence of slider smartphones aiming for bezel-free displays, a refreshed Nokia N95 with a sliding mechanism for a hidden front-facing camera would have been well-received.
3. Nokia E90 Communicator
Nokia’s Communicator series, notably the Nokia E90, was beloved for its clamshell design with a dual-screen layout reminiscent of a laptop. A modern version of the Nokia E90 could adopt a foldable form factor like the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold series or a dual-screen setup akin to the Microsoft Surface Duo 2, maintaining the functionality of a laptop-like device with a built-in QWERTY keyboard.
4. Nokia E7
The Nokia E7 featured a unique sliding mechanism that revealed a QWERTY keyboard, making it ideal for business users. A modern remake could retain this design while offering upgrades like a larger display, enhanced battery life, and integration with Android OS. Alternatively, HMD Global could transform the sliding mechanism into gaming controls, catering to the growing demand for gaming smartphones.
While the likelihood of seeing these classic Nokia smartphones remade is slim, they remain beloved by fans who appreciate their iconic designs and innovative features.
