U.S. Calls for Unhindered Aid Access in Gaza Amidst Settler and Hamas Interference
The United States is urging both Israel and Hamas to ensure the safe passage of aid destined for Gaza following a concerning incident involving a shipment from Jordan.
Secretary of State Antony Blinken inspected the aid before its departure from Amman, emphasizing the importance of delivering assistance to Gaza’s civilians, who are facing the threat of famine after months of conflict.
Israeli settlers reportedly attacked the shipment en route to the Erez crossing, prompting Blinken to address the issue with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
While Israel apprehended three individuals linked to the attack, the U.S. insists on preemptive measures to prevent such incidents in the future.
However, the aid convoy faced another setback when Hamas intercepted and diverted it within Gaza. The State Department condemned Hamas’s actions, stressing the need for aid to reach those in need rather than being misappropriated for other purposes.
