After the release of the latest trailer for “Twisters,” an international trailer has also surfaced, offering a different perspective on the upcoming blockbuster. While the previous trailer had a lively atmosphere with country music and an emphasis on adventure, the new trailer from Warner Bros. Indonesia presents a more somber tone. In this trailer, Daisy Edgar-Jones’ character, Kate Cooper, grapples with the consequences of a mistake that led to the loss of someone she loved. Additionally, we get a glimpse of Anthony Ramos’ character, Javi, but it’s Glen Powell’s portrayal of Tyler Owens, the “Tornado Wrangler,” that steals the spotlight as he offers Kate a chance for redemption.
The trailer maintains a dynamic reminiscent of the original 1997 film, featuring a team of scientists determined to make a difference. However, this time, instead of Cary Elwes’ financially motivated character, Powell’s character embodies a thrill-seeking adventurer chasing after “the finger of god” for the sheer excitement of it. The film appears to be a fast-paced summer blockbuster, promising audiences an entertaining ride.
As for whether “Twisters” is a true sequel to the original film, the answer seems to be nuanced. While it exists in the same universe, writer Mark L. Smith confirmed that it tells a separate story. In an interview with Collider, Smith clarified that “Twisters” will be connected to the original film but will stand on its own as a distinct narrative.
“Twisters” is set to premiere in theaters on July 19, 2024. In the meantime, the original “Twister” film is available to rent or buy on Prime Video.
