Here’s the reordered line: “Here’s how Google could make setting up a new Android phone way faster.”

If setting up a new Android phone feels like a hassle, there’s potential good news on the horizon. Assemble Debug delved into Google’s Data Restore Tool code and uncovered hints about a new method for faster data transfer, utilizing both a physical cable and Wi-Fi simultaneously.

The tool, referred to as “MultiTransportD2dTransport,” suggests copying data using both cable and Wi-Fi for optimal speed. This combination could potentially expedite data transfer, capitalizing on the strengths of both wired and wireless connections.

However, it’s uncertain whether phones can effectively receive and process data using this method to improve the current system’s efficiency. While AssembleDebug couldn’t extract more details from the code, the phrase “want to speed things up?” hints at a possible prompt during Android setup to try the dual-transfer system.

Additionally, Google seems to be working on a feature called “Restore Anytime,” enabling users to transfer data from one device to another without factory resetting the target device. This means data can be merged with existing content on the target device, with no risk of overwriting changed settings. This feature also appears to support data transfer from iPhone to Android.

However, there are some limitations, such as only being able to transfer data from a device that was previously used for data copying. The specifics of this restriction are unclear, but it may imply that data can only be transferred freely to an older device if data was previously copied from it.

Android Authority suggests that new devices may still require a factory reset for data transfer, creating some confusion. Perhaps Google will address these details and unveil these features, possibly at Google I/O 2024, offering insight into incoming Android features. However, it’s uncertain when these features will be officially announced, so we’ll have to wait for further updates from Google.
