An Israeli strike on a southern Lebanese village on Sunday killed several members of the same family, according to a local official and state media. Hezbollah retaliated with rocket fire following the attack.
Since Israel declared war on Gaza on October 7, the border between Israel and Lebanon’s Hezbollah resistance group has been a flashpoint, with frequent exchanges of fire. Recently, the intensity of the conflict has grown, with Israel launching strikes deeper into Lebanese territory and Hezbollah increasing its missile and drone attacks on military targets in northern Israel.
The Lebanese state-run National News Agency reported that the Israeli strike in Mais al-Jabal killed four members of one family, including a man, a woman, and their children aged 12 and 21. Two other people were also injured in the attack.
Hezbollah responded to the strike by firing “dozens of Katyusha and Falaq rockets” at the Israeli town of Kiryat Shmona, according to a statement from the group. The attack was in retaliation for what Hezbollah described as a “horrific crime” by Israel in Mais al-Jabal.
