Is the Motorola Razr+ a better foldable than the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5?

There’s something undeniably appealing about flip phones with foldable displays. They offer the convenience of a traditional slab phone when unfolded, yet they shrink down to a pocket-friendly size when folded. Last year saw the release of the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5 and Motorola Razr+, both of which pushed the boundaries of modern flip phones by enhancing the functionality of their exterior displays.

But when faced with the choice between the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5 and the Motorola Razr+—two top-tier foldable phones starting at $999—how do you decide which one to go for? Each phone has its own set of pros and cons, making it a challenge to determine the better option.

In a recent episode of Tech Takedown on our YouTube channel, two of our editors went head-to-head, presenting arguments in favor of their preferred flip phone. They highlighted key features that they believed made their chosen device the superior choice. After each presentation, the opposing editor had the chance to counter with their own arguments, leaving the final decision to the viewers.

Advocating for the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5, Kate Kozuch emphasized the device’s current-gen Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor, which outperformed the Razr+’s Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1 in benchmark tests. Future-proofing your investment in a $1,000 phone is crucial, after all.

On the other hand, John Velasco championed the Motorola Razr+ for its meticulous design details, particularly its curved edges that enhance grip and the ease of one-handed operation when opening the device.

Kate countered with the superior camera system of the Galaxy Z Flip 5, noting its impressive performance in photo comparisons, especially in low-light conditions. With the addition of Galaxy AI editing features from the Galaxy S24 Ultra, Samsung’s phone proves to be a capable camera phone.

In response, John highlighted the usability of the Razr+’s exterior display, which boasts a larger size and broader app compatibility compared to the Z Flip 5’s display, which only supports select widgets.

Ultimately, both the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5 and Motorola Razr+ offer compelling reasons for purchase. Be sure to watch the full video to see if either editor’s arguments sway your decision.
