IDF Chief Discusses Military Operations on Lebanon Border
During a recent visit to the Lebanon border, Israel Defense Forces Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Herzi Halevi emphasized the military’s readiness for an offensive against the Hezbollah terror group. He commended the operational defense efforts in the north and stated, “We are preparing for an offensive in the north,” in remarks published by the military.
Halevi’s comments followed an assessment meeting with key officers including Maj. Gen. Ori Gordin, commander of the Northern Command, and Brig. Gen. Yisrael Shomer, commander of the 146th Division.
In discussions with reservists from the Etzioni Brigade, Halevi reiterated the ongoing Gaza campaign, emphasizing its objectives to restore security to Gaza-border communities and secure the release of hostages.
The visit to the Lebanon border coincided with Hezbollah’s continued attacks on northern Israel during the Gaza conflict. Israel has issued warnings of potential war if Hezbollah persists in threatening northern communities.
Hezbollah claimed responsibility for multiple attacks on Wednesday, including anti-tank missile strikes on the border community of Metula. The IDF responded with artillery fire and airstrikes on Hezbollah positions in southern Lebanon.
Israeli fighter jets targeted Hezbollah buildings in Ayta ash-Shab and Marwahin, while overnight strikes hit multiple Hezbollah positions in southern Lebanon.
The IDF’s actions underscore its determination to address threats from Hezbollah and maintain security in the region.
