Following Microsoft’s unexpected closure of Hi-Fi Rush developer Tango Gameworks, concerns arose regarding the fate of the previously announced physical version of the game. However, Limited Run Games has reassured fans that the physical edition of Tango Gameworks’ final project is still on track for release.
Limited Run Games’ official X/Twitter account responded to speculation suggesting that the physical release of Hi-Fi Rush would be canceled due to Tango Gameworks’ closure. They clarified that this is not the case and affirmed that the physical release “is a go.” However, no further details, such as a release date, were provided.
Last March, Bethesda Softworks announced a collaboration with Limited Run Games to produce a physical version of Hi-Fi Rush. This announcement coincided with Xbox’s revelation that several of its former console exclusives, including Hi-Fi Rush, would be made available on other platforms, with a PlayStation 5 port of Hi-Fi Rush confirmed.
Limited Run’s confirmation of the physical release comes amidst Microsoft’s decision to shutter four Bethesda Studios, including Tango Gameworks and Redfall developer Arkane Austin. Reports following the closures revealed additional details, such as Tango Gameworks pitching a sequel to Hi-Fi Rush before its closure.
Besides the studio’s closure, the physical edition of Hi-Fi Rush holds significance amid ongoing discussions about the gaming industry’s increasing reliance on digital distribution. Despite Xbox’s Phil Spencer expressing support for physical media, leaked documents suggested that an updated Xbox Series X console might omit a disc drive.
Additionally, Hi-Fi Rush features copyrighted music, raising questions about the fate of its digital version on platforms like Xbox Game Pass once music licenses expire in the absence of Tango Gameworks.
