We’re on the verge of the OnePlus Watch 2 launch, but the big question remains: will it run Wear OS? Although there hasn’t been an official confirmation yet, Oppo’s upcoming Watch X strongly suggests that it will.
Oppo recently announced that the Oppo Watch X is scheduled to launch on February 29. What catches attention is its striking resemblance to what we’ve seen from the OnePlus Watch 2 so far. From the unique button placement on the right side to the band design, the similarity is uncanny. This is not surprising considering the close hardware relationship between Oppo and OnePlus, as seen in products like the Oppo Find N3 and OnePlus Open.
What’s significant about this announcement is that Oppo explicitly confirms that Wear OS powers this new smartwatch. The teaser image prominently displays the “Wear OS by Google” logo, along with a footnote indicating a minimum requirement of Android 8.0. This leaves little doubt that the OnePlus Watch 2 is likely to run Wear OS.
While there’s a slim chance that OnePlus might opt out of Wear OS support again, it seems highly unlikely. The teaser promising 100-hour battery life, coupled with the FCC’s revelation of a 500 mAh battery, strongly suggests that Wear OS, or perhaps something more advanced than OnePlus’ previous RTOS, is in the works.
We won’t have to wait much longer for official confirmation. The OnePlus Watch 2 is all set to be officially unveiled on February 26.
