Multiple cell service providers across the United States are currently experiencing outages, as reported by Downdetector.com. Among these providers, AT&T appears to be the most affected, with tens of thousands of customers reporting service disruptions. While other carriers like T-Mobile, Verizon, UScellular, and Consumer Cellular are also experiencing issues, the number of complaints is notably lower.
The problems with AT&T began around 4 a.m. EST, subsided briefly, and then resurged, surpassing 50,000 reports by 7:00 a.m. EST. Some areas have reported difficulties with 911 emergency services, prompting public safety announcements in cities like San Francisco and Charlotte, North Carolina.
In San Francisco, the Fire Department advised AT&T customers to utilize landlines or reach out to friends or family with different carriers if they were unable to contact 911. Similarly, the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department assured residents that their 911 call center remained operational despite the outage.
In Florida, the Flagler County Sheriff’s Office announced that they were now able to receive text messages to 911 from affected AT&T users, providing an alternative means of communication during emergencies.
Even transportation services, such as SEPTA in Philadelphia, acknowledged the impact of the AT&T outage and warned passengers of potential delays due to communication issues.
At present, the cause of the AT&T outages remains unknown. Affected customers are advised to stay updated on developments from their respective service providers.
