“Law & Order: Organized Crime” has been renewed for a fifth season, and the show will be moving from NBC to Peacock. This announcement comes after some speculation that the series might transition from network TV to a streaming platform. The Season 4 finale is set to air on NBC on May 16, and will be available for streaming on Peacock the next day.
The move isn’t entirely unexpected. While “Law & Order: OC” has had a smaller audience compared to other Dick Wolf shows like “Law & Order,” “Law & Order: SVU,” and the “Chicago” series, it has performed well on Peacock, partly due to its serialized storyline, which is a bit different from the usual procedural format. The show was the last of Wolf’s broadcast series to get the renewal nod. His other two “Law & Order” shows, along with all three “Chicago” shows, were renewed back in March, and CBS renewed the three “FBI” series in April.
“Law & Order: OC” stars Christopher Meloni as Detective Elliot Stabler, a role he originated on “SVU” before leaving the show prior to its 13th season. The series also features Danielle Moné Truitt, Rick Gonzalez, and Ainsley Seiger. In the show, Stabler returns to New York to join the Organized Crime Control Bureau, where he takes on the city’s most dangerous crime syndicates.
The series was created by Dick Wolf along with Matt Olmstead and Ilene Chaiken. Wolf executive produces the show with John Shiban, Paul Cabbad, Jon Cassar, Arthur Forney, Meloni, and Peter Jankowski. Shiban, who serves as the show’s sixth showrunner since it started, will continue in that role for Season 5. Universal Television produces the series in association with Wolf Entertainment.
