“Sequel To Roguelike Hit Hades Enters Early Access With ‘Overwhelmingly Positive’ Reviews”

Exciting news for fans of Hades: the sequel to the beloved roguelike has entered its early access phase after a surprise announcement at The Game Awards in 2022.

While currently exclusive to PC, many enthusiasts of Supergiant’s original game are eagerly awaiting news of a potential console release in the future.

On the developer’s official website, it’s stated that early access is expected to continue “at least through the end of 2024,” with plans for a console launch to follow:

“We do not have a release date set for the completed Hades II v1.0, and expect to be in Early Access at least through the end of 2024. We expect for Hades II to eventually be available for PC, Mac, and console platforms (though cannot confirm which platforms yet).”

Initial reception for Hades II on PC has been overwhelmingly positive, with Steam users giving it high praise and critics lauding its achievements.

While prior knowledge of the original game isn’t necessary to enjoy Hades II, there are numerous connections to its predecessor. Here’s a glimpse into the sequel’s backstory:

“In Hades II, players assume the role of Melinoë, the immortal Princess of the Underworld. Armed with the full might of Olympus, players will explore a larger, more intricate mythic world, battling against the forces of the Titans in a rich narrative that unfolds with every victory and setback. New challenges, locations, upgrade systems, and surprises await as players delve into the ever-changing Underworld.”

“Similar to Zagreus from the original game, Melinoë is inspired by ancient Underworld deities, particularly those associated with Hades. Exploring her story and her familial ties expands our vision of the Underworld and adds depth to the game’s mythology.”

While there’s no official announcement regarding a console release for Hades II yet, fans are hopeful for news in the near future.

For those who haven’t experienced the original Hades, it’s currently available on the eShop. In our review on Nintendo Life, we awarded it an outstanding score, calling it “a must-have for all Switch owners.”
