T-Mobile recently uncovered that some of its Home Internet customers were exploiting a loophole to utilize the service while traveling. Initially, the company announced plans to address this issue by implementing a fix scheduled for May 8. However, T-Mobile has now decided to postpone the rollout of this fix.
Originally, on May 8, T-Mobile intended to notify Home Internet subscribers about implementing stricter address verification measures on gateways. This move aimed to prevent customers from taking their 5G gateway with them while traveling to access free internet without repercussions. Additionally, T-Mobile planned to introduce a new Away plan as an alternative for frequent travelers.
However, recent reports suggest that T-Mobile has halted the launch of both the address verification and the new Away plan. Furthermore, it appears that the proposed Away plan would only cater to customers already eligible for the standard Home Internet plan, rendering it redundant as the Home Internet plan offers unlimited data at a lower cost.
The reasons behind T-Mobile’s decision to delay the implementation of these measures remain unclear. However, it’s likely that address verification and a revised Away plan will still be introduced in the future, albeit with potential modifications.
