Motorola’s newest addition to its lineup is the 2024 Moto G Stylus 5G, offering an option for stylus enthusiasts at an affordable price point of $400. With only a few alternatives like the Galaxy S Ultra line available, this phone stands out for its inclusion of a stowable stylus.
One notable aspect of the design is the “vegan leather” back, which adds a touch of personality to the device. The phone features flat aluminum sides, a flat screen, and a hole-punch camera. While Android doesn’t offer extensive built-in stylus features, users can rely on Motorola’s offerings, including the “Moto Note” app and the ability to share drawings via instant messaging, supplemented by options available on the Play Store.
In terms of specifications, the Moto G Stylus 5G falls into the mid-range category, powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 6 Gen 1 chipset featuring four Arm Cortex A78 cores and four Cortex A55 cores, built using a modern 4 nm process. The device sports a 6.7-inch, 120 Hz, 2400×1080 OLED display, 8GB of RAM, and 256GB of storage, along with a 5000 mAh battery supporting 30 W wired charging and 15 W wireless charging. Camera capabilities include a 50 MP main camera, 13 MP wide-angle lens, and a 32 MP front camera. Additional features include a MicroSD slot, headphone jack, in-screen fingerprint reader, stowable stylus, and NFC. However, Wi-Fi support is limited to 802.11ac (Wi-Fi 5), and the IP52 dust- and water-resistant rating offers only basic protection against water drops.
Motorola’s software update policy remains a concern, with the Moto G Stylus 5G receiving one major OS upgrade from Android 14 to 15 and bi-monthly security updates for three years.
The device will be available through various channels, including carrier stores, Best Buy, Walmart, Amazon, and Motorola.com. Unlocked models are expected to ship starting May 30, with carrier availability including Metro by T-Mobile, AT&T, Cricket, Boost Infinite, Boost Mobile, Consumer Cellular, UScellular, Spectrum, Xfinity Mobile, Google Fi Wireless, Optimum Mobile, Straight Talk, Total by Verizon, and Visible.
