Anya Taylor-Joy found herself diving deep into the demanding world of George Miller’s “Mad Max: Fury Road” prequel, “Furiosa,” where she learned that portraying a dystopian feminist warrior doesn’t come easy. Despite grueling early call times and extensive makeup sessions in the Australian winter, she embraced the challenge with enthusiasm.
Reflecting on her transformation into Furiosa, Taylor-Joy shared photos of her makeup tests, revealing the intense process required to achieve the character’s rugged appearance. She recounted how the layers of makeup and grime were essential for the character’s authenticity, even though it made her virtually unrecognizable.
During the six-and-a-half-month shoot, Taylor-Joy spent most weekends working on set, immersing herself fully in the role. Amidst the harsh environment, she found solace in the company of a fluffy Ragdoll cat named Kitsune, her faithful companion throughout the filming process.
The prequel delves into Furiosa’s backstory, exploring her journey from a young girl in the utopian Green Place to becoming a formidable force in the wasteland. Taylor-Joy expressed her emotional response to watching the rough cut of the film, describing it as a traumatic experience.
Despite the challenges, Taylor-Joy approached the role with dedication and intensity, drawing praise from director George Miller for her commitment to the character. She underwent physical training and shooting practice to embody Furiosa’s strength and resilience accurately.
