The home media release of Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes will include a “raw” version of the movie, allowing people to watch the original footage of the actors’ performances in their mo-cap suits.

Wes Ball, the director of the upcoming installment in the Planet of the Apes series, recently shared exciting news for fans eagerly awaiting the home media release of “Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes.” In an interview with Ape Nation, Ball revealed that the DVD release will include a special feature allowing viewers to watch the movie with the original footage of the actors’ performances in their motion-capture suits.

Ball expressed his enthusiasm for providing audiences with a unique behind-the-scenes look at the filmmaking process. He explained that viewers will have the option to watch the entire movie with “raw dailies,” showcasing the unprocessed footage of the actors’ performances before visual effects were applied.

The director highlighted the evolution of motion capture technology and its significance in bringing the Planet of the Apes franchise to life. He emphasized the opportunity for fans to gain insight into how the intricate process of animating CG characters is achieved, particularly in scenes where human characters interact with computer-generated apes.

To enhance the viewing experience, Ball mentioned plans to provide commentary with Erik Winquist, the VFX supervisor, offering further insights into the filmmaking techniques utilized in creating the final cut of the movie.

“Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes” is set in a world where apes have become the dominant species, while humans live in the shadows. The film follows the journey of a young ape as they navigate the complex dynamics of this divided society.
