Ukraine has introduced an innovative approach to official communications by unveiling its AI-generated spokesperson named Victoria. This digital representative, clad in a formal dark suit, will deliver statements on behalf of the country’s foreign ministry. In a groundbreaking move described as a “technological leap,” the ministry announced that Victoria Shi, as she introduces herself, will present statements written and verified by humans, while her appearance and movements will be facilitated by AI technology.
Victoria Shi’s introduction marks a significant departure from traditional diplomatic practices, aiming to streamline communication processes and optimize resource allocation within the ministry. Developed by a team known as The Game Changers, Victoria’s creation is a blend of cutting-edge technology and real-life inspiration. Her name, derived from “victory” and the Ukrainian term for artificial intelligence, reflects her purpose and identity.
The spokesperson’s visual and vocal characteristics are modeled after Rosalie Nombre, a Ukrainian singer with a personal background that adds depth to her portrayal. Despite being born in Donetsk, now under Russian control, Nombre’s story resonates with Ukrainian audiences through her social media presence, where she discusses issues like cultural stereotypes and language diversity.
Importantly, the ministry emphasizes that Victoria Shi and Rosalie Nombre are distinct entities, with only the former authorized to deliver official statements. To ensure authenticity, each statement will be accompanied by a QR code linking to its text version on the ministry’s website, thus safeguarding against misinformation.
Victoria Shi’s responsibilities will include addressing consular services, a topic of recent controversy following Ukraine’s suspension of such services for certain demographics abroad. This decision has sparked debate, particularly among men of fighting age, who may now need to return to Ukraine for administrative procedures, potentially affecting their military draft status.
