Jerry Seinfeld’s latest venture on Netflix, a comedy movie titled “Unfrosted,” has been attracting a lot of attention from viewers. Directed and co-written by Seinfeld himself, the film delves into the fictionalized story behind the creation of Pop-Tarts, set against the backdrop of a fierce rivalry between cereal giants Kellogg’s and Post in the 1960s.
In “Unfrosted,” Seinfeld also stars as Bob Cabana, a Kellogg’s executive, alongside Jim Gaffigan as Edsel Kellogg III, Melissa McCarthy as Donna Stankowski, a NASA-turned-Kellogg’s scientist, and Amy Schumer as Marjorie Post, the boss at Post. While the characters are fictional, Schumer’s portrayal of Marjorie Post is loosely based on a real person, with comedic exaggerations added for effect.
The movie made quite a splash upon its release on Netflix, debuting at No. 1 on the Global Top 10 Movies chart with 7.1 million views, equivalent to 11.3 million viewing hours. It also secured the third spot on Netflix’s US Top 10 Movies chart.
Critics on Rotten Tomatoes gave “Unfrosted” a lukewarm reception, with a 41% “rotten” rating based on 85 reviews. However, audiences were slightly more forgiving, awarding it a 50% neutral Audience Score based on over 500 ratings.
In addition to its main cast, “Unfrosted” boasts a plethora of cameo appearances from renowned stand-up comedians and stars from film and TV. Notable names include Bill Burr, Cedric the Entertainer, Darrell Hammond, Mikey Day, James Marsden, Patrick Warburton, Hugh Grant, and even a mini-reunion of “Mad Men” stars Jon Hamm and John Slattery.
“Unfrosted” is currently available for streaming on Netflix, offering viewers a humorous take on the origins of the beloved breakfast pastry.
